This won gold at the 2005 GABF, and I'm not sure why.
This comes a gold and straw with decent head and lots of carbonation. The bouquet is non-distinct, though I did get some citrus hints.
Perhaps my expectations were off, but given the name and style of the beer I expected something light-to-medium bodied and well-balanced. The body was med/light, but the flavor profile was all over the map: odd fizziness and carbonation, a bitterness that didn't seem to be hop-driven, and a flat, lingering aftertaste devoid of any malt sweetness.
After a half-pint I quickly switched back to the Telemark IPA.
Backcountry has some great beers on tap. This isn't one of them.
