A collaboration with Gipsy Hill.

Lightly hazed, pale gold. Respectably fluffy white head, but not much retention. Smells like sherbet - the British citric acid candy kind, not the American sorbet kind. Very strong lemon-Orange Julius thang. Much Sorachi Ace, not so much yuzu. Smells a bit like straight lemon-lime, liked they used the Korean yuja rather than yuzu, or the frozen purée for pastry chefs. Very citric, but with none of the complex, resinous character provided by real Japanese yuzu.

Tastes very, very Sorachi Acey. Massive lemon, vanilla, chamomile, and coconut. But again, where's the yuzu? This is a perfectly tasty (but not quite sharp enough) pale ale, given lots of unusual nuance and distinct character from the Sorachi Ace, but it is extremely disappointing to taste a beer named YUZU, in big fucking letters on the label, that tastes basically nothing of yuzu. And speaking of the label: it says it would be good with sashimi, which is flat-out wrong, and it also references kamikaze, a tragic practice of imperially-mandated martial murder-suicide. Which is extra fucking wrong.

Alright, it's a tasty Sorachi Ace pale ale. But it's also total false advertising and it feels like a bandwagon jump brewed by people who understand neither yuzu nor Japanese flavours in general. Fail. Possible food pairings: chèvre, Thai salads, lamb, curry goat, monkfish liver.
