Standard amber body with good clarity, an alarming amount of thin off white foam caps the top. Subsides quickly with the crackle of rice krispies but leaves a sudsy and attractive coating of lacing. Hmmm....
Grains and flaked corn on the initial whiff, there is a bit more depth of molasses and caramel as the beer warms. Some fruitiness that I hope is malt complexity and not yeast. Not much in the way of hop character maybe a bit of herbal balance and steel.
Gah, the taste is rather thin the amber color doesn't hide the cereal grains and corn syrupy sweetness that sticks through the finish. Fruity yeast is full of red berries with a hint of candied walnuts. No real hop presence or crisp and cleansing lager yeast.
Watery with most of the flavor coming late. Burns out its carbonation quickly as well. Malt just sticks to the tongue and is largely lazy and doesn't cleanse.
Not a good representation of style, it tastes largely like an amber ale with Belgian yeast. Way too many phenols and is neither full flavored or bold. I will pass this one up next year.

Appearance is attractive with a clear orangey amber color and a fun-sized foam in the tall Bellegems glass. Lacing sticks to the glass as you sip. Pleasant spritzy mouthfeel.
Rather sweet, which is not much of a surprise, but this is sweeter than any of the other Oktoberfest beers I've tasted this year. Grainy with that odd dirty, gummy taste that I associate with IHOP pancake syrup. Some roasted malt and a fruity touch.
Aroma is interesting-- cereal and malted milk, blackberries. This is one of my least favorites in the Marzen style. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Barons Marketplace on West Point Loma.
