8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - I thought that this was the house brew for the Next Act pub, but I was mistaken, as that accolade goes to Blindman. My bad.
This beer appears a mostly clear, dark orange-brick brown colour, with one skinny finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat bubbly beige head, which leaves a decent wall of painted lace around the glass as it quickly disappears.
It smells of mixed red berries (with raspberry sort of standing out), bittersweet cocoa powder, lightly roasted caramel malt, muted domestic citrus rind, and some rather mild earthy, leafy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is sort of meaty caramel malt, a mixed berry and citrus fruitiness, stale chocolate, a hint of wet smoke, and more understated herbal, leafy, and grassy hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its palate-assuring frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with just a touch of ashiness getting a tad grabby around here. It finishes off-dry, the fruitiness showing some strong lingering legs.
Overall - this is a pleasant enough version of the hybrid style, one of the better that I have ever come across. Worth checking out, IMHO, even if you are an agnostic such as myself.
