750 poured into a tulip
with the ZORK resealable cap
Imperial Oat Stout @10.6 ABV
A-- Poured dark brown and settled black. Looks good in the glass. One finger off white head that settled to film. Good length and body to the head. Some spotty lacing.
S-- Big hoppy imperial stout. The roast part is quite good. Lots of oatmeal and chocolate. The negative is the hops. Big fruity hop smell. Mainly pineapple. Was hard to get over the mix of the two in the smell. Just did not mesh. Good amount of booze. Very fresh.
T-- Quite hoppy. Lots of bitterness in this. Really offsets the roast characters in this in a bad way. In retrospect should have held onto this longer. Got a mix of pineapple, pine, oatmeal and chocolate. not a good mix. Lots of booze.
M-- Oily in the front and dry in the back. odd mix to me. Just harsh in a way. Prickly carbonation and medium heavy feel. Not sure what this wanted to be really.
O-- Flavors just did not mix for me. Felt should have not opened it for a while longer and let the hops drop back. Big and bold beer but thinking citra was the hop choice for this and just did not work. The roast profile was good but just did not work with the hops. Will revisit once given the chance.
