Flavorful, aromatic, satisfying…things you're probably not used to saying about the Gluten-Free beer in your fridge. Think again! Steadfast Oatmeal Cream Stout goes where no Gluten-Free beer has ever gone before—into complete darkness. Brewed with Certified Gluten-Free oats which are roasted by hand, this midnight black ale lives where quality, flavor and roasted satisfaction intersect.

DATE: March 20, 2020... OCCASION... the first week of distance learning concludes with much to be pleased with--of course, the virus has not yet abated... so back to some gluten free reviews... GLASSWARE: Samuel Smith pint... pours a light (?!) black body while supporting a finger's worth of creamy brown head that laces upward with coral--tough to tell it lacks malt from here... it settles quickly, but still leaves an island of smear... thick with oat and cereal grain, sweet sorghum, rice and licorice, light chocolate and toffee scents as well... alluring for its average weight... viscous, yes, with an oily, smooth presence and a chewable finish... the aftertaste is present, but not overpowering.... its flavor melds an eastern European hop with oatmeal, sorghum, licorice, toasted malts, and toffee... this achieves a higher degree of enjoyment than its parts, making a good companion for a night growing colder... Steafast's best offering, to my experience thus far...

Picked this up because my wife is Celiac. Gluten-free options are difficult to come by in a wide variety, and it's nice to see a brewery doing something very different.
A: Pours very dark burgundy with a small head.
S: Nose has a touch of grassiness from the sorghum, with underlying notes of light chocolate and coffee.
T: The initial taste from a fully cooled bottle is heavy on coffee with a bit of the earthy sorghum. After warming a bit the sweetness starts to evolve, while the coffee takes a darker, almost burnt, flavor.
M: Slightly carbonated, and creamy enough to keep the cream stout name tag. It became more smooth as it warmed slightly, but the flavor also disappeared more quickly.
O: My wife was not thrilled with it. She favors Tweason'ale from Dogfish, and this is a very different animal. For myself, I enjoyed the texture, and the coffee made it interesting. I'd like to see the brewery push the chocolate a little more to drown out just a hint more of the sorghum. Honestly, we probably will not purchase this again since I am not restricted to gluten-free drinking, but I will still recommend that individuals new gluten-free dining give it a try. We will, however, try some of their other gluten-free options.

A: The beer is just about jet black in color—faint traces of dark reddish brown are visible near the edge of the glass. It poured with a quarter finger high tan colored head.
S: Light aromas of chocolate are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, except that some notes of the underlying sorghum peek out from behind flavors of chocolate and molasses.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied and a little smooth and creamy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: If I was restricted to drinking gluten-free beers, I would probably seek this out again for a change of pace as the chocolatey flavors did a good job at masking most of the sorghum aromas and flavors. I liked the somewhat smooth and creamy mouthfeel.

Tastes and looks like it was brewed in a bathroom. Would never wish this on my worst enemies.
