On the surface, ÜberJoe lives up to its name sake: it’s a big coffee beer. But as with most things at 3 Sheeps, the story behind the beer is more complex. From the full-flavored roast we developed with Colectivo Coffee, to the vanilla we add post-fermentation, to our partnership with Black Swan Cooperage and their unique “honeycomb” cut maplewood barrel staves that produce a deeper barrel flavor than typical staves — everything in Uber Joe is designed to highlight its massive coffee flavor. It may be more time consuming, sure, and more expensive, but the end result is worth it. It’s a chocolatey, vanilla stout with notes of sweet baked bread, bourbon, maple candy and all of the coffee flavor you can handle.

Tan head. Black color. Bottle.

Cocoa and a light roast. Lots of coffee and then some vanilla sweetness. The maple staves round it out with a touch more sweetness and oak. Chocolate and a bit of chocolate cake batter.

Another Nick U beer, thanks again.

Imperial stout pours black, 1/3" brown head. Dense. Aroma was roasted malt, coconut, coffee. The wood staves were lost on my nose, purportedly maple barrel, but that didn't work out for me.

Taste reveals the coffee is a little stronger in the taste. Its bigger, but I dunno about the commercial tug job referencing a "massive" coffee amount. There is also a mild vanilla current running through it. Roasted grain is high, but this doesn't go into sludge territory. Hides the alcohol very well. The more I drank, the more I liked it. Plenty of dark chocolate notes without getting into sweet/sugary territory. The beer just continually got better, and it wasn't like I served it at 34 degrees and it warmed. Maybe I had a plugged nose. But it definitely was enjoyable and kept improving.
The maple was the slightest thing about it. Its a lighter non bourbon CBS basically.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 4/24/19, had 6/9/19.

Pours a dark brown, mostly opaque, with a half inch foamy head and a little soapy cling. Aromas of coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, some wood, some smoke and char, vanilla as it warms, a light nutty aroma. Similar flavors- coffee, chocolate, malt, vanilla, some wood, a light nutty flavor. Smooth, a good full body, creamy, well carbonated.

This is a solid coffee stout, where the coffee is the headliner. Enjoyable, if unremarkable. Worth a purchase.

Poured into a wine glass. Very dark brown in color. A normal pour produced a small tan head that quickly settled, leaving small rings around the glass. I noticed the vanilla the most on the aroma. milk chocolate and coffee were there, but the vanilla dominated and the coffee appears to have faded (bottled 10 months ago). The taste had more balance, with equal amounts of chocolate, vanilla, and coffee, along with oak, dark cherries, and toffee. Full bodied and not overly sweet. Carbonation was below medium. Overall an excellent beer, but the vanilla overshadowed the coffee IMO.

Super dark brown fading to black.
Small mocha ring for a head.
Super nice coffee notes, good tastes of roast
and touch of chocolate.
Some bitterness in a good way.
Medium mouthfeel, clean, save for the coffee.
Great evening sipper maybe with 85% dark chocolate.

Odell snifter

Deep shiny black with a thin ring of beige head

Deep, dark burnt toast aromas with some roasted malt and charred wood. Slight brown sugar.

Flavor brings dark toast again, with some coffee roastiness, followed by maple syrup, more coffee, and a nice creamy hint of vanilla at the end. If you squeeze your tongue inside your mouth after the swallow you get a lot of residual flavors but you have to try as it is not there naturally.

Feel is carbonated and very roasty with a particular dryness and some moderate alcohol heat.

Overall, a capable stave aged coffee stout. Nice notes of vanilla and maple though not overwhelming or out front. Still a good pick up if and when you can find it ever.

Pours a ruddy-tinted dark brown with a fat finger of airy, dark-tan head that’s fairly short-lived and leaves soupy lacing.

Peanuts and breakfast-roast coffee stand out in the nose.

Dark chocolate peanut butter cups show first in the taste. They’re coupled with chewy coffee candies from the bulk bin at an old-school supermarket. There’s a hint of cherry-vanilla cordial sweetness and a hint of spicy wood. Touch of alcohol, too. Then a nutty finish.

Full, very creamy feel, but a bit over carbonated to my taste.

This is a perfectly acceptable coffee stout that just doesn’t push the right buttons for me. The body is excellent, but the carbonation detracts. The kiss of sweetness is a nice touch, but the peanut character is a negative for me here. The BBA version masked the qualities I dislike in the base much better.

L - 1-finger hazelnut head fades quickly, leaving behind a pitch black body.

S - smoked malt, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, coffee. Yum.

T - follows the nose. Lots of chocolate and vanilla, followed by mellow coffee, caramel, a little green pepper. Low bitterness. Low sweetness. Low booziness.

F - medium body and carb.

O - tasty sauce.
