Smoky bourbon married to a belgian strong. In taste and smell this partnership is certainly the predominate flavors, with floral, peppery, yeasty, and boozy notes coming along after. Hides the high abv well in the body, but not in the taste and certainly not in smell. Fun take on the style

12oz pour on tap at Brasserie V in Madison, Wisconsin. Served in a 3 Sheeps pint glass.
Pours a clear golden yellow body with a one finger white head, nice retention, thin collar, bits of lacing. Smells of grainy malt sweetness, a bit of minerals, a bit of smoky bourbon, wheat, touch of grass. This is pretty nice as the sweetness and minerals seem to work pretty well with the bourbon and smoke. Flavour is similar; not complicated but the bourbon and mild smoke add a bit of bitterness and smoky sweetness to the yeasty Belgian base and the grainy malt. Mouthfeel is medium-thinner bodied, good carbonation but seems a bit thin for a beer that spent time in barrels. That being said, this is a nice and relatively unique take on a Belgian beer style that I did enjoy a fair amount.

I love this base beer. I am not a huge Belgian fan but this one I have a fondness for. I liked this beer in bourbon barrels but liked it better last year in chardonnay barrels.
