Poured into a wine glass. A hazy medium brown on the pour and much darker in the glass. A standard pour produced a thick, fluffy tan head that lingered. The aroma was complex with a sweet blend of molasses, figs, caramel, cherries, and plums. Barrel presence was minimal on the nose. The taste followed with the above notes, but the rye barrel was there and it cut the sweet flavors quite well. The Quad base was there and not overshadowed by the adjuncts. There was a nice Belgian estery character underneath. Full bodied with lively carbonation. This was outstanding.

Opaque dark brown with a creamy tan blanket fading to a bubbly collar.
Smell is wet gingersnap and molasses with spiced and toasted graham, fig, Tootsie Roll and charred oak.
Whereas many good Quads mimic the flavors of fig and molasses, this beer has them added to it, and the result is much the same. I'd love to know if the base is just as worthy, but this is tasty nonetheless, with flavors of toasted graham, molasses, dark gingersnaps, fig, red grape, and a hint of nougat with a substantial presence of woody, dry spicy rye whiskey bringing a little booze.
The smooth moderate body has a light prickly fizz that glides into a silky, semi-dry finish and a slight tingly heat.
