Imperial Saison Ale brewed with mangoes and aged in white wine barrels. Mangoes highlight the best attributes of the Saison yeast, adding brightness and a clean sweetness to the base beer. Aging in white wine barrels for 8 months adds subtle fruit flavors and oak notes, before blending in a small amount of our fresh Mango Saison to once again bring the fruit to the forefront. One sip and all you will be able to think about is mangoes.

650ml bottle. Served in a snifter glass. Pours a slightly cloudy lighter orange body, one finger white head, fair retention, bits of lacing. Smell is acetone, green apple, sugar, grape skin. The acetone is strong, and tempered only by the strong green apple. This has definitely been hit by the acetaldehyde bug. Still somewhat enticing, but the acetone takes a lot away from my enjoyment. Flavour is pretty awful. Don't know how to put it, but it's tasting like what you'd expect acetone to taste like, especially with a heavy astringency that is unpleasant and lingers far too long. Not so much the green apple, that goes away quickly, but the acetone leaves a lingering unpleasantness with a bit of unnecessary heat. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, dry, and well, just all-around unpleasant to drink. I'm really not sure what happened here, my guess is that the yeast spit out a ton of acetone and a fair bit of acetaldehyde and didn't have a chance to clean it up before I opened up the bottle. It's a bit of a shame, because the bottle is fairly pricey at $16+tax. I would just try this on draft (presumably it's better there) and pass on the bottles.
