Chardonnay barrel aged. This is a 12 ounce bottle labeled differently than the other Roll out the Barrel. Label describes it as a "Belgian Golden Ale Aged in Chardonnay Barrels", I placed it as a Tripel as that's the closest style I could put it in.
Poured from a bottle into a chalice. Poured a light straw with a decent sticky head. Clarity is good for a barrel aged beer.
Aroma is sweet, vinous and fruity. Slight metallic aroma.
Flavor is sweet, sweet, sweet malt. Cloyingly sweet with a grape vinous flavor. No bitterness and not enough carbonation to cut. Apple juice with added sugar.
Mouthfeel is syrupy and sticky.
In my experience in a sweeter beer with chardonnay flavors, the chardonnay profile dries the flavor slightly. This does not. I can appreciate a sweet Belgian, but this is too much. Overly sugared, overly sweet. Does not work for me.
