Revisited May 12th, 2023
@danmullens1 brought another bottle of this to the BA bottle share in Sheboygan on May 12th, 2023. I didn't score this tasting but do have the following notes:
On-tap bottling at the brewery (7-11-21)
Dark amber
Zesty, minty, anise
Sweet, sticky
Dan M says more like a barleywine; I think it tastes like a well-aged triple
+++ so, not too different from my notes below
-------------------------------------------------------------
Murky, medium copper looking body; thick frothy head, off-white and sticky; immense sheets and rings of foam coat the glass. Big caramel nose; butterscotch. Huge malt base flavor with a nice dose of old, earthy hop flavors; a slight suggestion of anise and pepper corns; some phenol notes. Heavy body; huge residual sugar feel; boozy warmth.
This beer is over a year old and brewed by @scream's son Nate in commemoration of his dad - Don. The nose is huge malt and does remind more of a barleywine than a triple India pale ale; no hop presence noted. Oxidized quite a bit yet still quite drinkable if taken as a huge malt-bomb beer. Cheers, Don! I never met you but I have your son and sampled a number of his newer 3 Sheeps beers. Ya done did well you old Navy guy, you...
Pouring temperature: 45 °F; bottling info: n/a
