Looks Dark. Drinks Light. Lightweight Black Wheat Ale is a study in contrasts. It’s dark and has those wonderful roasty notes, but isn’t a heavy, thick beer made for sipping. Lightweight isn’t a crisp, refreshing beer like a pilsner, but it is deceptively light, delicious, and easy to enjoy.

L: dark brown cola color; thinner khaki head quickly fades to a thin layer of foam
S: roasted barley, caramel, anise
T: roast & char, caramel, cola, midnight wheat, grassy/herbal hops
F: medium body, moderate carbonation, balanced finish with roast lingering
O: a unique beer that has some good flavors

I had this on tap at the Milwaukee Burger Company. dark, almost black color, not much foam, basically tastes like a black ale with a dab of Coca-Cola. Disappointing. I normally like what three sheep’s offers.

12oz can. Can bottom is stamped 'CANNED ON 12/08/2022'.
Black colored body, with garnet red back lit edge. One finger of light tan head, which sticks around as a partial cap and sturdy ring. Leaves behind only a few scattered spots of lacing.
Aroma is roasted chocolate malts and light smoke.
Taste is a refined Tootsie Pop, with sweet roasted chocolate malts. Slight wheat malt tang. Floral hops. Chocolate malt in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Slight tongue numbness. Smooth finish. Very good carbonation.
Easy drinking dark ale, and drinks "light", not heavy.

Compared to Bahaus Stargrazer 1/28/2023: Pours darker, larger head. Stronger aromas. More chocolate, roasted cocoa. Less pale malt. More flavor. Winner: 3 Sheeps

Compared to Oliphant Rusket Dark 2/2023: Pours darker, stronger, darker head. Milder aromas. More smooth, bittersweet chocolate and malt. Less light grains and roast. Smoother and maltier.

Compared to The Brewing Projekt Dusk Beast 2/2023: Pours similar, milder and lighter head. Stronger aromas. Less dark grains. More dark and roasted cocoa notes. More flavorful.

Compared to Utepils Loonar Eclipse 3/2023: Pours similar, darker head. Stronger aromas. More dark chocolate, cocoa, roast. Less bready flavors. More flavor and darker.

Overall: An excellent American black wheat ale if that is a style. Consider it a German Schwarzbier I'd say. Fantastically roasted, dark, even somewhat smokey and bitter. Good cocoa flavor. Yeasty. Excellent. (Rating: 4.17)
