Canned 2/9/24 (3 weeks ago)
Appearance: Pours a halfway clear (50% clarity) medium orange color with a strong white head. SRM of 8. (4.00)
Aroma: Moderate aromas of orange, grapefruit, hints of pineapple, dank herbs (3.75)
Flavor: Moderate flavors of orange juice, grapefruit, smooth pineapple, grape, and melon. Some dank herbs underneath, but sweet finish. Minimal bitterness. (4.00)
Feel: Medium-bodied, average carbonation. Smooth and sweet. (3.75)
Compared to Toppling Goliath Broccoli Special Reserve 2/2024: Pours clearer, darker, similar head. Milder aromas and flavors. More orange juice, dank herbs, smooth pineapple. Less white grape, guava, melon, mango. Less juicy and milder flavors overall.
Overall: Great hop combo of Nelson and Rakau. I guess I mistook this for Riwaka. A little Nelson shines, but overall the aromas and flavors are more mild. I'm starting to prefer either a full on WCIPA bitterness or a juicy DDH IPA nowadays. This one drinks more traditional. It's alright, but nothing special. (Rating: 3.87)
