1/2 pint served in a small shaker at the brewery, "Common Cents" is a dark, clear copper with with a wispy white skim that leaves light lace.

Smell is clean, sweet caramel malt, simple and appealing.

Taste is bitter-sweet caramel malt, very clean and tasty, with bready, bitter finish. Nice and simple, I haven't had a steam beer in a while, and this has me wondering why!

Mouthfeel is smooth and still, with a light body.

Drinkability is high, probably the style as much as anything else, but whatever reason, this one really slides down with ease. Went great with their blackened salmon salad.

This is the first I’ve ever encountered a steam or California common beer brewed in Oregon. New Old Lompoc is alleged to have one, but they’re otherwise as common as spotted owls around here. But it’s not the rarity of this event that makes Standing Stone’s California Common stand out. It’s the vivid clarity and dark scarlet color and the welcome infusion of both fruity and grainy malts offset by stylish bittering.

This beer is clean and fruity with a dominant measure of refined malts. Casual, elegant, and a true pleasure to drink.
