This was a pretty decent red IPA, if a bit higher alcohol than I expected. It's a good blend of hops and malt, dark enough to be a red but hoppy enough for those that enjoy IPAs. Compared to something like Odell Brewing's Runoff Red, it's very similar, maybe a step below, but I can see why this is one of their biggest sellers. I had one of Big Choice's other beers a while back, but this one was clearly better.

Tasted at Big Choice - sampler size. Very nice lacing but no head. Color of darker then Type 3 IPA - amber, orange, brown color. Aroma of almost nothing and doesn't seem to because it's too cold- light citrus, nuttiness, maybe walnuts, bready. Palate of fresh raspberries, raspberry sour candy, cherries, bitter/fresh citrus, grapefruit, sourdough bread, pine needles. Pros fresh, medium plus intensity, some complexity, nice balance. Cons low aroma intensity, doesn't seem like 85ibu- medium bitter. 87/100. Favorite so far of pinhead pilsner and type 3 IPA. 87/100.

16 oz can. Pours ruby amber with a medium frothy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet sugary caramel and toffee malt with some nuttiness.
The flavor is sweet nutty caramel and toffee malt with a big resiny piney hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, a decent hoppy red.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a pub glass.
Appearance - amber, copper in color; impressive display of carbonation bubbles that builds a fluffy, off-white head! Lacing is decent.
Smell - hop forward; citrus fruit, I'm picking up some mango!
Taste - excellent hop flavors, bitter grapefruit, pineapple and mango!
Feel - a little one sided, though I enjoy the hop character, could use some balance and complexity.
Overall - this is more of a India style red ale, as opposed to an amber ale. Nicely crafted ale for hop heads and available in pint cans!
