A single hopped El Dorado Belgian IPA? Um, ok? This outta be interesting.
Pours the industry standard golden yellow, nothing different here, 1/2" white head, decent clarity. Belgian yeast comes on first in the nose, its not as strong as some, but it still beats out the El Dorado hop in terms of who brings the heaviest and primary aromatics. A lighter citrus and Simcoe like hop feel from the El Dorado behind it all.
Taste still pushed a moderate yeast phenolic angle primarily, which is commensurate for style. I guess I thought El Dorado might put a little more of a spin on this, but it was largely lost on me. Yes, the bitterness and citrus was more than normal, but again, still secondary. Carbonation was good on it. The clove note was not long lasting thankfully. I would have honestly guessed this was Simcoe hopped, had more characteristics of that hop than El Dorado. Claims of tropical and stone fruit notes did not play out in the taste or mouth feel, but the high alpha acid bitterness did. Tad boozy too.

a - light golden color, 1.5 finger head, little to no lacing
s - herb and citrus, strange malt aroma
t - the experimental hop has an interesting taste, not super-bitter, just strange. Can't explain it..
m - good carbonation, that strange aroma overwhelms the finish
o - I'm a big fan of IPA's, but this one just didn't go over well. Would not order again.
I would go back to this brewery though. I only tried the one beer, but they had other good looking beers and it's a great atmosphere.
