Appearance is clear straw w/ white head. Smell and Flavor are mild. It's tasty and easy to drink. Bottom line it's a good beer that I would have again.

12oz can, dated 05.02.2018, poured into a 16oz tumbler glass.

The beer pours a bright golden lemon color, honey hues that is fairly cloudy with a foamy white head, about two fingers tall that has moderate retention and yields a few soapy spots of lacing. The aroma is nice, bright and vibrant noble hops, citrusy and earthy, lightly floral with soft sweet cereal grains. The flavors are very nice, crisp hops, bright and floral with some underlying grassiness and citrus with a sweet kiss of pale cereal malt. The mouthfeel is very good, coating and crisp, lively light medium body that has a dry bite at the finish but is very easy.

Verdict: A nice Kolsch from Solemn Oath. Bright, balanced, refreshing and very sessionable as advertised. The hops are bright and crisp and offer a touch of pleasant bitterness.

Had on tap. So again, I feel like people rate low because the style, kolsch, it pretty bland. That being said this does well to add an earthy and spicy kick to the traditional yeasts and hint of fruit. A little thin however

Pours a clear, dark straw color with almost no head. Plenty of carbonation.
Smells of yeast, Hops and slight lemongrass.
A nice blend of crisp, barley yeast and hop flavor. Comes with a nice little hop bite.
Clean and crisp mouthfeel. A nice kolsch.

A- Can pours into my glass with a clear medium golden yellow body and a fluffy white head. Cap height peaks at about a finger high and retention is fairly good. Lacing is hard to come by.

S- Subtle, balanced and lacking any major off aromas. The grains come in with a crackery honey sweetness which is joined by pale fruit esters like pear and a very light spicy hop hint.

T- Stays on track with what the aroma brought for the most part with the malts gaining some strength on the palate. Light base grains present crackery, bready and grainy mash flavors which are countered nicely by pale grape vinous hints from the yeast and floral, spicy hops. Again, subtle all around in Kolsch fashion.

MF- Smooth and silky with a rather creamy texture. This consistency comes with strength despite the beer having a light feel on the palate. Subtle bitterness in the finish.

Kolsch is certainly not an easy style to brew at all and this one is quite good. No major off flavors or flaws with subtle pale barley, light fruit and spicy hops.

I found myself underwhelmed for the the first half of the pour. The kolsch-ness was there, but with no substantial variations on the theme.

It grew on me and was light enough to parse through the Midwestern meadow, which may have been aggressively subtle, but was still there.

Solemn Oath is emerging to me as one of those micros that need to focus on a tradition and get good at it. While this is only my sixth beer from them, only one did I rate above average. They are trying to do too many styles and many beers don't taste good enough.

Lu is another example. They kinda mimic this obscure style. But there is nothing distinctive about the beer. Maybe it is suitable for a session; but not a fulfilling one. Not a bad beer; but probably not one to survive either. For Lu, maybe try less carbonation so the winey nature of the Kolsch stands out more.
