12 oz can. smudged date on bottom. after drinking, I fear this was a 2019 date, even though I just bought it.
pours inky black, tan colored head. aroma and taste seems to be a bit oxidized. There is is the dark chocolate roasted malt flavors but a bit of cardboard, and none of the adjuncts. full bodied.

Black with a slight frothy, tan head. Chocolate, abuelita spice, cinnamon and a chili kick. Smooth vanilla, creamy and drying. Full bodied, a chocolate milk consistency. A lot like abraxas, this has a nice interplay between the adjuncts lending a well-balanced, not overly boozy imperial stout experience. Recommended

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled of cinnamon, chocolate and vanilla. Sweet chocolate taste with cinnamon, some spicy Chile pepper and subtle vanilla.

Has the barrel version a while ago, and had noted that I thought the bourbon covered up the nuance of the peppers and cinnamon too much. Now I realize it wasn't the barrels, it just wasn't that strong to begin with compared to the vanilla, cocoa, lactose, and roasted malt. Some light toffee, coffee and dark fruit in there too, but nothing definitive. It is good, but I want more intensity from the spices in taste and smell. Goes down very smooth together, more like a mexican donut than stout tasting. It's solid, but there are so many other better mexican stouts out there.

12oz can, date stamped 11 09 18. Thick pitch black pour; tall brown head disappears very quickly. Roasted barley, dark chocolate, molasses, chili pepper, cinnamon for aroma. Nice rich and balanced flavors with great complexity: dark chocolate, nutty roasted barley, vanilla, cinnamon, spicy chili pepper, caramel, raisin, toffee, earthy hops. Full body, creamy and smooth, balanced through and through. This was good. I think all the additions were added in the correct amounts, leading to a very well-balanced beer.
