My biggest complaint with black IPA is that it can bend more towards the roasty malt character than the hops and ends up coming off more like a hoppy porter/stout. This one doesn't fall victim to that and has a wonderful balance between hop and malt, with the hops staying forward. Hops bring spritzy navel orange flesh and peel, tangerine, floral, grapefruit, dank, and pine resin. Malt brings roast, cocoa powder, some coffee bean, and toasted brown bread. The resinous fresh hop character really elevates this one. Outstanding.
