Reviewing the Khlörost Escobar version. Enjoyed on draft at the Solemn Oath beer dinner at Wild Monk. Served in a shaker pint.

A: Pours a hazy orangish color with some brown hues in the body. No doubt this color change from the base can be attributed to the addition of the coffee. A thin white head forms on the pour and dissipates to a thin ring that leaves some splotchy lace.

S: Light yeasty notes with some peppery, clove and fruity esters. The coffee then comes on with some light toasted beans and some cracked wheat.

T: The taste follows the nose with the nice wit presence of yeast and wheat. Same peppery qualities with some fruity esters, but the coffee really comes on stronger in the taste. It provides some smooth roast, light unsweeted chocolate and mild roast.

M: Light to medium bodied with some medium carbonation levels. Drying nature on the finish.

O: I really enjoyed the addition of the coffee. It wasn't over powering and the subtleness of it really played nicely off the yeast and cracked wheat of the base. I still enjoyed the base better, but I will be seeking out any other variations of this.

Served in a tulip glass at Fountainhead.

Seems as though Solemn Oath took their base Khlöros wit and spiked it with various coffees (examples: Brazil Bania Progresso, Costa Rica Cafe San Louis Alajuela, and Uganda Kapchorwa). This is the Escobar version. It pours a hazy brass topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises lemon zest, light brett, light coffee, cardamom, and black pepper. The coffee is definitely present, but fairly subdued. The taste goes all Manichean on us, with one side rocking some orange zest, coriander, black pepper, and wheat; while the other brings in the coffee, now bolder, and a very light kiss of roasted malts. It's an interesting dichotomy, but one that somehow works. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda dry finish. Overall, a surprisingly tasty brew, one that makes me wonder what other combinations would work this well...
