A: Pours a clear red hue with similarly tinged head. Good streams of bubbles rising.
S: Heavily spiced; clove, cardamom (my favorite), some good vanilla bean. Smells like a chai tea more than a beer. Underneath all that, however, is a good malt aroma. Appetizing, but nervous to be smelling these from a beer.
T: It works! Lots of warm spices integrate well with the slight biscuit-y flavors of the malts. Finish has a bit of spiced heat to it. Wouldn't call it super well-balanced, but the flavor combinations are done well. Won't be everyone's favorite, or even palatable to some, but I like it.
M: Almost creamy despite the fair carbonation. A good feel, just slightly confusing with the tea-like flavors present.
O: A successful experiment. Some might have a disdain for relying so much on the spices, but that's what they're going for, and they do it well. Not to compare to other brews, but it is reminiscent of a few other very highly-regarded beers, just taken a step farther. It would be especially enjoyable on a cold winter night, and I'll have to try it again with some of the brewer's suggested pairings (cinnamon rolls?!). If you happen to come across it I would recommend a tasting!
