A: Pours an opaque yet slightly cloudy dark purplish red in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate dark purple colored highlights. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy slightly purplish white head that quickly reduces to a small patch of very thin film and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of sweet pomegranate + cherry juice with a subtle hint of grainy malts + sweetened lime.

T: Light flavors of grainy malts with light to moderate flavors of sweetened lime. That is followed by slightly stronger then moderate flavors of very sweet sweet pomegranate + cherry juice. Minimal amounts of bitterness present and a lingering sweet pomegranate + cherry juice.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Drinks pretty easily considering the strength and the alcohol is well hidden. Not nearly as artificial tasting as some of the others in the series. Not sure I would get this one again but still enjoyable - a touch too sweet for me.

A: The beer is dark red in color and has some purplish hues. It poured with a short white head on the surface that rapidly dissipated, leaving the surface devoid of any bubbles.
S: Light to moderate aromas of pomegranate and cherries are present in the nose.
T: Sweet flavors of pomegranate juice are present in the nose.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite easy to drink—the alcohol is well hidden from the taste and there are no artificial flavors. It is not overly sweet.

This will be my third entry in New Bud Light Lime Beer-A-Rita Sunday (Week 680) & more fodder for The CANQuest (tm). The impetus comes from a discussion yesterday at the FGBS in which I was queried as to having drank all of the new Ritas. I knew that I had a stash in abeyance, so I declined any new purchases until I could get home & see what I already had. I get the add & approved pic photo credit for this one, BTW.

The day will be dedicated to my late-Great Aunt Rita, one of my favorite relatives. She lived in a suburb of Kleveland with late-Great Uncle Max & was my late-maternal grandmother's sister. As a kid, they would come to visit my teetotaling, religiously morally upright grandmother with Max at the helm of his Caddy, its trunk laden with smokes & booze of every stripe. Y'see, PA has the State Store system & until recently wine & distilled spirits could only be purchased at a State Store & beer could only be bought at a distributor at a minimum of a case. Nothing was available on Sundays, a product of our Blue Laws, which is why NFL games start at 1300 - to be finished by sunset. Legend has it that on one visit, Max awoke early, was having a Vodka & Grapefruit, scandalizing my grandmother and offhandedly remarked that it was the last of his stash so following church, he would need to stop off & reload. Her response caused his mouth to fly open & his lit cigarette to fall into his lap & he began to weep. He informed Rita that right after church, they would be westbound for Ahia, toot sweet! Haha. Even better, as soon as he passed through the PA/OH Turnpike's tollbooth, he would shimmy the steering wheel, flash the high beams, toot the horn & lean out the window, proclaiming that he had returned to sanity. I remain unsure since they lived in Kleveland, but it was his gig. After that, he was like a Boy Scout - fully prepared. I loved those two & I don't know if it was a tic or that Max knew that I got it, but he would always punctualize his conversations with me with a wink. Man, when they showed up, the Vice Squad wasn't far behind - alcohol, tobacco, playing cards & dice. Hoo boy, was it a great time with them!

From the CAN: "Pomegranate Margarita"; "Contains Alcohol"; "Malt Beverage with Natural Flavors and Artificial Colors".

I have recently gotten hip to truly reviewing/rating to style, not to taste, following some jagov's taking another user to task for reviewing/rating to taste, something that you are NOT supposed to do & which I reported. Mine will probably be an outlier as a result, but at least you know the justification.

First of all, this was one of those massive new 25-fl.oz. CANs, as if they were doing anyone a favor with the added volume. They tend to fight me on the Crack! & this one was no exception. The other drawback of which to be aware (& it also happens with Crowlers) is that the vent sits further from the lip of the seam than in regular CANs, so dribbling (or worse) CAN occur during the Glug if you do not position the CAN right into the glass. My initial Glug produced a finger of fizzy, deep-pink head with very limited retention, quickly fading to wisps. Color was an amazing Magenta (SRM = N/A) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a semi-sweet cherry quality, perhaps pomegranate, but it has been a while since I had one. Very much of dried, dark stone fruits, sweetish, but not sugary. Mouthfeel was medium, so far, the best of the lot. The taste was of a fruit, but whether grape, black cherry or something else, I CANnot tell you. Still, pleasant and not cloying. Finish was semi-sweet, fruity but not cloying & actually rather tasty. I have to say that of the three today, this was the best of the lot. Even so, one was satiating.

Appearance: Deep red in color, verging on mahogany, with a small white head that vanishes in seconds. Only faint carbonation noted.

Aroma: A quite authentic note of pomegranate greets the sense. The alcohol content of 8% ABV cannot be detected in the aroma.

Taste: Begins with a strong and authentic note of pomegranate. As the taste progresses, warming alcohol is notable. No hop presence can be discerned. Finishes with a lingering, sweet note of poegranate.

Mouth feel: Smooth soft, and very pleasant, quite full and soft.

Drinkability/notes: Not bad, how many beers contain pomegranate? A must-try for the adventuresome.

Presentation: Packaged in a twenty-five ounce aluminum can, served in a standard twenty-ounce Pilsener glass.

Anheuser-Busch "Bud Light Raz-Ber-Rita"
24 oz. can, coded "17219 BEO816"
$2.99 @ Stop N Shop Liquors, Camden, NJ

Not unlike the Bud Light Lime Lime-A-Rita, this is not really a beer, but a malternative version of a margarita cocktail, this version is done with Pomegranate flavor added. That's a bit of a stretch though as I thought it tasted more like Concorde grape, and hardly anything like pomegranate seeds. It's bright and sweet, and very sweetly dark grape-like in flavor - almost candyish, and too much so. Not the best of the Lime-A-Rita flavors to be sure.

25 FL. OZ. can
Served in a nonic pint glass

This beverage pours a deep red hue. It looks like carbonated cranberry juice, maybe a little darker. It has no head.

The smell is really sweet with lime and pomegranate.

The taste is sweet. It has lime and pomegranate. It drinks like pop until the alcohol starts becoming apparent as it warms.

Thin mouthfeel

It is what it is.
