Welcome to my opening salvo in Happy Damn You for Being with the Best Multiple New Hookers with Tea on Sunday When There's Beer, Bro. Woody! (Week 687).
I begin with a rant - This, from my review of Best Damn Original Hard Tea: "Sadly, this one has me a bit twisted up! I saw it at one of my locals during a recent visit & brought it home with every intention of adding it to The CANQuest (tm), but when I got on this site, it did not exist. I have no CANpunction about adding a valid new beer, plus I submitted what I transcribed off of the CAN for the "Notes/Commercial Description" portion of the entry & took a picture of the CAN which I then resized & saved. In the interim, this site was not loading properly for me for a few days & when I was finally able to get on and submit my pic, somebody else submitted a picture of a bottle! 8={} Please don't do that! If you see my username as the "Added By", know that I will be submitting a pic soonest. I do not review ANY beers until a pic has been taken, resized, submitted & approved. Lesson learned. I will not build any new beers until I have a pic ready to go." Lesson learned! This one is all me - added, pic taken/resized/submitted/approved & now I am its first reviewer.
From the CAN: "Ale aged on Black Tea leaves with natural flavors and Caramel Color".
This CANcoction was housed in a massive 25-fl. oz. CANtainer so the Crack! was loud & the Glug was gentle since it was a LOT of liquid to deal with in case of a spill.
As a sidebar, thank you to the brewers who have made almost all CANs either 16- or 25-fl. oz.! Aluminum recycling has shot up to $0.40/Lb from $0.25/Lb due to the increased demand & I am STILL plucking massive amounts off of the street & out of the gutters.
I filled my glass nearly to the brim, but I left room to CANduct an in-glass swirl, which was to no avail. I got naught but wisps, which is okay, I suppose since it is meant to mimic non-carbonated iced tea. Speaking of which, the Coppery-Brown color (SRM => 17, < 22) was spot on, especially given its NE-quality clarity. Nose was sweet and iced tea-like, very reminiscent of Twisted Tea, which I imagine is the market that A-B/InBev is trying to undermine with this series of releases. Mouthfeel was medium, which was kind of a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a watery mess, like its predecessor. I liked the taste of this one, CANparatively speaking. Either it tasted more vibrant in terms of its tea flavor or the peach flavor was masking any lesser qualities that I noted in reviewing Original. I liked the peach flavor and this could have been built as a "Fruit/Vegetable Beer", but since Original was "Herbed/Spiced Beer", I wanted CANtinuity. Finish was sweet, but not cloying, making for a pleasant enough quaff. I would probably give Original a pass if it were to cross paths with me again, but I would put a couple/few of these in the summer cooler when heading to the beach. I CAN't see drinking more than three (3) at a time, but it certainly beat Original!
