from a pumpkin beer tasting we had halloween night including Michelob (brought the night before to a party...), Elysian, Dogfish Head, Southern Tier

-way too clear orangy amber color. barely any head that goes quick

-this is actually probably the best part of the beer, although not great. there are some spices, but not much

-nutmeg comes at me. really tough to do a tasting on this because it is damn gross. worse than straight up michelob

-pretty harsh

-i pretty much hated drinking this...i poured most of it down my sink's throat

I am torn on exactly how to describe this color. I'm going to go with "macro golden amber". It's like transparent pimpkin pie with a rather respectable head.

Ok, the smell is a little scary. I smell, in this order, adjuncty skunk, urine, and a pumpkin spice candle with too much nutmeg. If college bars were filled with pumpkin candles and urinating upon them was an acceptable way to extinguish the flame then bars across North America would smell exactly like the contents of my pint glass.

Thankfully this beer tastes more pleasant than my nose was led to believe. That's not really saying much, but it's much better than a pumpkin piss candle. The spice comes out with some nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves. In fact, it wouldn't be too bad if the base beer wasn't what it is. However, it is a marked improvement from the base. Still not good, but better than average.

In the mouth it is surprisingly creamy and balanced for what it is. Pumpkin can work miracles.

Ok, this isn't my cup of tea, which is about as surprising as walking into a strip club and seeing boobies. That said, it is a pretty decent introduction to spiced beer for the "typical" North American beer drinker. All-in-all it's not bad, but not particularly good. For me to have it again it would have to be at a bar full of other AB products that is out of soft drinks. Yes, it's strange that the drinkablility is the lowest score for a beer, but it's a road I can only walk once.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass

A - pours bright orange/amber with one finger of foam that dissipates quickly. No lacing present.

S - smells mostly of spices - cinnamon and nutmeg predominantly.

T - pleasantly sweet, with a mild pumpkin and spice flavor.

M - sweetness sticks around for a second, then fades away. No lingering aftertastes or bitterness. Lightly carbonated.

D - This one isn't half bad - the sweetness is just enough to give it some complexity, but not so sweet it gets to be difficult to drink

This was a poor beer for the price. It tries to fit in with the other fall or pumpkin spice type beers, but does so terribly.

The flavor seems mostly artificial, in fact it's quite hard to tell there's an actual beer underneath all the artificial flavor.

Mouthfeel is okay, weak carbonation can lead to easy drinking if one can stomach all the nutmeg, clove, sugar and whatever else AB chose to throw in to appeal to the cheerleader beer crowd.

Smell is okay, its sweetness kind of prepares you for what's to come. Appearance is copper/carrot color and looks quite decent if it weren't for the near non-existent head.

2009 batch with the new title "Jack's Pumpkin Spice Ale." Sampled on September 15, 2009. Pours from the 12 fl. oz. bottle and honey-orange tone with excellent clarity and very little head. The aroma has a whisper of pumpkin spice and malts but the sensation was underwhelming. The mouthfeel was pretty thin although not completely at the point of watered down. The taste rescues it a bit as it is enriched with pumpkin spices and hops at the finish.

Poured from a 12oz.

The color is a clear gold with a nice thick white head.

The smell is sweet, some pumpkin spice flavor with some hoppy floral notes.

The taste is a slight pumpkin feel with a few surprises. It is nice and spicy with nice character.

It has a nice even feel that is real easy to enjoy. The drinkability and flavor of this beer is just great. The Michelob series of craft beers is really holding some surprises.
