22oz bottle - gee, yeah, sometimes I just crave a beer that is NOT delicious. What a fucking stupid marketing angle.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, pale golden straw colour, with three zaftig fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and mildly bubbly eggshell white head, which leaves some decent thickly webbed lace around the glass as it slowly dissipates.

It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, clover honey, a touch of pome fruitiness, and some plain earthy, leafy, and grassy green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, some white grape and muddled citrus fruity notes, faint estery yeast, and more understated earthy, musty, and dead floral hoppiness..

The carbonation is average in its palate-coating frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, with nothing really getting in the way of a straight-up good time here. It finishes off-dry, the malt and mixed frooty essences presiding.

Overall - this comes across as a well-constructed version of this classic style, nice and simple, and easy to slam back on another hot and muggy summer day in the city, whilst being thankful that I don't live anywhere that Croatian fans might be parading their 'victory' down the streets.

Kolschtastic pours a perfectly clear light gold. It's foamy white head doesn't leave much once it descends, but persists around the perimeter, and laces moderately.

Lightly toasted bread, fresh grain, and honey tackle the nose. A minor floral finish, presumably from some old world hops.

Tastes a little overly sweet. Very honey forward. There is little to elaborate on, as even the breadiness seems faint. The bread that does show is somewhat buttery.

Slightly under carbonated, it leaves a slick feel to the roof of the mouth and tongue. It definitely favors the sweet side.

Overall, this beer is just ok. It reminds me more of an American blonde ale than a Kolsch. It lacks that spritzy feel and earthy hop bite that I love so much of the style. Prost!

Poured into a Sester stange. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a half finger off-white head with good retention and nice lacing. Aroma of grainy malt and grassy hops, good kolsch profile. Flavor follows with grainy biscuit malt, lightly citrus and grassy hops, a hint of lemon. Finish is hop forward, with a lingering grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with light creaminess. My feelings were divided on this one. The malt body is quite authentic and captures the classic kolsch graininess and lightness and the initial hop flavor is also true to style. The finish, however, is quite a bit more hop bittered than any kolsch I've had, and that is apparently by design according to the description from the brewery. And it is refreshing and rustic. My taste buds were surprised by the finish, since kolsches by design are calm and mild. So an interesting interplay between traditional kolsch flavors and North American interest in higher hop levels. This one grew on me as I drank it. Nice level of flavor for the ABV.
