exceptional cellar pull for halloween weekend here, picked this up in our travels this summer and the time felt right. a collaboration with alesong, who i adore. a brett fermented beer aged in vermouth barrels, a unique combination of ideas and indeed flavors, really well executed, well refined and mature, cool label art, a delicious offering from two of my favorites. golden and clear, almost like champagne through most of the bottle, a little sediment towards the bottom, pure white head but not real resilient, just over half an inch high and fading after a few minutes, still plenty bubbly though. aroma here is unique, its farmy and rustic from the brett, wet animal, burlap, dried flowers and herbs, musty, with sweet white wine notes, clean wheat, earthy slate type minerals, hay and straw notes, light clove and allspice even, green pear, and the vermouth complexity as well, really evolved and nuanced, somehow subtle behind the brett with all this going on. the flavor follows the nose, heavily bretty, really funky, this is all dried out and developed, but it still seems like it could continue to progress favorably in the cellar too. fruity like golden raisins and green apples, the vermouth is all on the finish and a nice wrinkle, woody too. clover honey, dandelion, white grape, spritzing carbonation, very low acidity but a hint of fresh clean lemon too at the end with the brett. really nice beer, different and delicious, fully met my high expectations!
