Pour is jet black with a nice cap of deep brown head. Doesn’t last long before fizzing away to a small ring around the glass.
Nose is peat, scotch whiskey, earthy, oak, roasted malt, ash
Taste follows. Upfront, peak, scotch whiskey, earthy, roasted malt. Follows up with milk chocolate, coffee, scotch layers in nicely throughout. Hint of warming alcohol. Subtle nutty (roasted peanut?) character comes through as the beers warms.
Dense, thick beer.

Cellared a year. Deep dark black with brown hints and cap. Smoky peat, scotch barrel, dark chocolate and malt in the nose, little unbalanced with the barrel. Taste actually does well to integrate the big scotch and lesser so oak with dark fruit especially, dark chocolate, earth, smoke, and peat there too. Still a boozy and robust sipper, though body is not heavy or thick, aftertaste is straight booze. Save for the dead of winter

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short light beige head that left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of smoked peat are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has more flavors of peat than it does smoke.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This stout is definitely lighter in body compared to other beers in the style - which makes it easier to drink - but it is still packed with lots of aromas and flavors of smoked peat.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin dark khaki head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, molasses, vanilla, mild smoke; rather boozy. Flavor is semi-sweet dark toasted malt, vanilla, milk chocolate, whiskey, raisins and vague citrus; a very light peaty smoke. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Similar to the base stout and rye versions, this one also has a slight fruit tartness that is similar to rye with citrus notes. The Scotch influence is light, which is a little disappointing, because I'm a Scotch fan and looked forward to this on the most. Still a fine barreled stout with a light touch of peat that may appeal to those for whom that flavor is a bit strong. The fruitiness of this version is a little surprising as that is not a character of Scotch, but adds a little uniqueness to this version.
