Opaque brown pour with a tan head. Big port, raisin, grape, date and toffee with decent booze and barley aromas. Taste hits the palate powerfully with the dark fruit and port, sweet but not sugary or overpowering, oak emerges with earth and the barley snarl to finish, slight oxidation lingers. Feel is warmer than others in the series, lighter too, but still very full, barley and malt focused. The wife liked it

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark orange red with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dry caramel and light biscuit malt, dried plums, raisins, light oak and fortified wine; a bit boozy. Flavor is dry caramel malt, Port wine, well dried plums and raisins. Port finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. The Port barreling is strong in this one, almost completely dominating the barleywine flavors. There is good caramel and some dried dark fruit flavors, but they need to be carefully parsed from the barrel character. Massive has always had a very solid malt base and although it supports the Port from the barreling, it is somewhat surprising to see the Port dominate. I like Port, so this worked well for me, but I had to dig for the barleywine notes. Interesting and definitely warming.

Another 500ML bottle as we work our way through the series, split with my wife. Love port. Looking forward to this iteration.

The pour is dark red with a few drops of brown food coloring to leaven the bloodiness with a nose that jumps with ruddy malts, fruit, & port. I approve.

Massive! Port Barrel Aged continues the hallowed tradition of this base beer searing a path of alcohol from tongue to uvula to chest cavity to stomach. Wowzer. Aged in straight Everclear? The fruity port runs over the barleywine, with the caramel running a distant third. Touch of vanilla, oak, char. Certainly could take a 500 of this stuff.

This is like Scottie Graham. Grab the ball, run over people, first down. Nothing fancy just straightforward goodness. Very good brew.

#3 of 7 from the 2020 series. It might sound obvious, but I am still surprised by how Massive!ly different these have been.

The bourbon barrel notes complimented the burnt caramel and strong hop presence, the port barrel all but crushes them. Warm, vinous notes throughout and a bit of oak and caramel at the finish bring it all together.

No regrets about buying these, outstanding stuff.

A: The beer is a little hazy dark brown in color. It poured with a quarter finger high dark beige head that gradually died down, leaving a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of dark fruits and port are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, but has stronger flavors of port from the barrel aging, which particularly linger into the finish.
M: It feels a bit more than medium-bodied on the palate and has a touch of warming from the alcohol.
O: I found that the taste of this beer was really dominated by the flavors of port, but it was remarkably easy to drink considering its strength and the only alcohol you get in the taste is that associated with the port.
