500ml bottle from Tavour. Near black pour with a few stray brown bubbles. Strong, boozy aroma, brown sugar, roasty, rum. Taste is sweet, chocolate, rum, mild roast. Lingering warmth, chocolate syrup notes.

2022 vintage, poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a nearly black, appearing opaque black in the glass with a quarter finger chocolate brown head with that dissipates to a thin cap with nice lacing;. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, rum fruit notes, vanilla, hints of plum; rather boozy. Flavor is dark toasted malt, rum, dark stone fruit, raisins, cocoa and vanilla; lightly tart plums in the finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess. Lots of dark fruit in this version that tastes more like fresh, underripe fruit than rum, but must be from the rum barrel. The base stout is a solid, rich Russian imperial style, but with more fruitiness than I'd expect from a stout. A slight tart astringency in the finish. To my surprise, I liked the mezcal version better, although I really liked the Massive barleywine with rum barrel treatment. Perhaps the fruit notes of rum suit my palette better with barleywines than stouts.
