Brewed with our friends at Põhjala (Estonia), Shipyards is a Bourbon barrel-aged Baltic Porter rooted in Northern European tradition. Silky & refined, it shows layers of pumpernickel crust, bittersweet baker’s chocolate, dried plum & molasses, deepened by charred oak & bourbon character. Full-bodied yet polished, with a long, stately finish worthy of Baltic winters.

I had it on draught at Beer Study in Carrboro, NC. Served in a tulip glass. It pours nearly ink black with just a ring of light khaki foam. The smell is dark fruit forward with big aromas of raisin and fig along with molasses tobacco, and a whiff of char. Its taste is big and bold with roasted malt, raisin, plum, fig, earthy char, and very distinct 4 Roses bourbon. It is more sweet than a typical Baltic Porter. It has a good, full-bodied feel with lite/moderate carbonation, and the 11% ABV is noticeable but not overpowering. Overall, Shipyards is somewhat unique; I don't think I've seen a BA Imperial Baltic Porter before. But it is a very tasty and enjoyable brew. I wish I could find it packaged.
