This beer is one commissioned by the Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize through a deal with Ben Vinken the famous Belgian Beer Sommelier.
I only bought it as they were selling it off at half price! Normally I steer clear of the bespoke and gimmicky beers which retail at premium prices, waiting until they need to free up shelf space for the next influx.
This was one of three beers 'designed' by Ben Vinken: the fact that I haven't felt the urge to try any of the other two, which were also reduced, speaks greater volumes than anything else that I am liable to type in the next minute or so.
A. A deep golden blond from the first pour, though as it's a 75CL bottle unless you are sharing, or decanting, the subsequent glasses will be more of a cloudy yellow colour.
S. No strong hop aroma to speak of; though perhaps this had mellowed with age.
T. An enjoyable but not especially exciting beer. Certainly I found the hopping too subtle for a true IPA (As an Englishman I don't necessarily expect the full on hop assault of an American IPA but a good amount of hop bitterness is a must if you are to claim that is an IPA). If I'm entirely honest I preferred it more when the yeast began to mix in with the beer and impart some more fruity notes to it.
All in all not a bad beer if you can get it cheap, but be sure to give it a good shake first, and don't expect it to be an IPA!
