Great aroma that promises a barley wine but delivers an over sweet stout. Overall worth it, especially if you can't find a strong ale at the time. Low gas, so a smooth experience that doesn't change as the beer sits. Not something I can put on my shortlist, but an interesting diversion with flavor, sweetness, and strong without too much of an alcohol taste.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a goblet. Had a deep, dark, mahogany brown color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a quarter inch of creamy, tan-colored, somewhat long-lasting head. Above average lacing.
S: A solid aroma of dark fruit, malt, Belgian yeast, chocolate, and a sugary quality.
T: Tasted of a decent amount of Belgian-style yeast (a very subtle presence), some candi syrup (sweet, but not cloyingly so), a good shot of dark fruit (plums and raisins, especially), a hint of chocolate (just enough to make things interesting), and light malt notes. An interesting, focused, and well done flavor. Pretty tasty.
F: A well-carbonated beer with a sharp, slightly dry finish. Medium-bodied.
O: On the whole, a solidly made, likable beer. Worth a try.

Rich malty sweet aroma with dark fruits and spicy phenols.
The flavor brings those elements together nicely as well. Dark fruits up front and yes the plum notes are evident but not overwhelming. I like the flavor they lend. Leans fruity sweet rather than tart or sour...although there is some tartness on the finish.
Nice malty sweet backbone.....hints of chocolate...some spiciness.
Smooth texture...easy drinking...8% but just a touch of booziness. This is impressive. Kind of a dubbel/quad hybrid.

Pours an effervescent Mahogany with a thumb of mocha colored head. Great lacing & above average head retention
S: Figs & plumbs
T: Follows the nose, dryness from the Candi sugar, woody & leafy hops up front. Leafy & woody hops mix with plums, figs & dryness, plus just little cherry & raisin, plus a little brown sugar. Finishes dry with plenty of dark fruit & leafy hops
MF: Fairly smooth carbonation, medium body
Has a lot of classic Belgian Dark aspects, think it needed just little more flavor to make it stand out

There is no date on the can although I do like the artwork on it. The pour is brown with red tinges with a thick & foamy white head. On the taste I get the Belgian candy syrup upfront & the plum puree starts show itself through the middle & the finish, some malts, & a faint cocoa powder note. The 8% abv is well hidden. Furthermore, the mouthfeel is thick & syrupy. Oh well, at least now I can say that I was able to try a beer with Belgian candy syrup & plum added to it. Cheers! B

16oz can. 8% ABV listed on can. Stamped on can bottom is '1500 MPN 1345'.
Brown colored body, with a strong tint of red. One finger of light tan head, which sticks around as an island and ring. Leaves behind some strings of lacing.
Aroma of sweet candi syrup, dark malts, and slight plum.
Taste of semisweet plum and dark malts.
Thicker mouth feel, with a syrup texture. Has a numbing effect on the tongue. Very good carbonation.
A pleasant winter sipper, with a heavier body and a taste that is not too sweet. Enough alcohol to create a warming effect as the beer is consumed.

On-tap at Mugs Alehouse, Brooklyn, NY
A: The beer is very hazy brown in color. It poured with a narrow ring of off white bubbles around the collar and some lacing on the surface.
S: Light aromas of yeast are present in the nose along with bits of plums.
T: The taste has flavors of plums, yeast, and some malty sweetness.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied but a little thin on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. There is a touch of alcohol warming.
O: This beer is a little filling and would make for a nice selection on a cold winter night, particularly if you let the beer warm up when some sweetness starts to come out.
Serving type: on-tap
