city star beers keep popping up all over town, good for them. this one is really good too, probably better than most others ive had of theirs. its a mildly spiced slightly boozy winter warmer type that really works for the season. dark dry malt, a little smoky, sort of like a scotch ale in nose and taste, but there are some subtle spice flavors, molasses, and i will be darned if this thing isnt oak aged. it has a distinct vanilla and wood aroma, and its there a bit in the taste too, and the mellow feel hints at that as well, although i cant be sure. not a beer i could drink a ton of, the booze really comes out when its warmed up, and its pretty dense on the whole, but a short pour is just right for the season, and i think the flavors come together really well. this is definitely an evolution of a style that has never really done much for me. great beer overall.
