On tap, review from notes.
Poured viscous and black with a tan head that retains and streaks. Wonderful aromas of espresso, chocolate, toast, and layered with dates, burnt caramel, a hint of toffee, and lots of roast. I can even discern a bit of overripe plums. The flavor is of the above but in much more complexity that can be put into words. Huge flavors all over the place, but not in a muddled fashion. Touch of classic English hops in the finish that work well with the roasted flavors. Velvety smooth, although I would have preferred a touch less carbonation.

Arrives black, not dark brown or red, black. Small, espresso colored head with decent retention. No lace.
Smell is intoxicating (no pun intended). Soy, smoke, roasted malt, worchestershire sauce, peat, molasses, dark chocolate and more. Phenomenal balance and complexity.
Taste is roasted/toasted malts, dark chocolate, molasses, toffee, soy, dark fruits and more I can't discern. Excellent balance, fabulous complexity.
Full bodied, warming, velvety smooth with a goodly coating of the palate as the one down side. Other than that picky note, this rocks!
