A blend of chocolate malt, traditional roasted barley, and debittered black malt lend this Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Milk Stout its nebulous, void-like hue without harsh, detracting astringency to make your mouth sad. Golden oats enhance body while a dash of applewood smoked malt provides the gentlest expression of smoldering depth. Go dark now or store cold.

Formerly known as "Barrel-Aged Lynott's Stout" - first released as a draft only offering in 2018.

Appearance - The beer was slick black in color with dark brown bubbles rising to the top of the pour.

Smell - Sweet chocolate and bourbon notes were apparent.

Taste - At the front were notes of oddly sweet chocolate and tobacco. The sweetness was balanced by dry red grape skin and wet barre notes. The can was from 2021, so it mat have been different fresh.

Mouthfeel - The body was not overly thick, but coated the tongue nicely.

Overall - I may like this better than the V.S.O. version.

Black color. Big, white head. Roasted malt, oak, chocolate, and bourbon in the aroma. Malty, moderately sweet with balancing roasted bitterness in the end.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a thin, dark khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bourbon, milk chocolate, light caramel and lactose. Flavor is mildly sweet dark toasted malt, bourbon, dried plums, raisins, milk chocolate, a touch of caramel and light woody oak; bourbony. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess and sharp carbonation. A bourbon forward barreled stout with good barrel wood notes and a solid milk stout base with chocolate and light lactose. Dark fruit notes, probably from the bourbon. Dense flavor and great integration of the forward bourbon into the stout. Body is a bit thin for substantial malt base, but it does support the flavors fine. Nicely done and just what I want from a big barreled stout.

Canned 12/2/21

This is a bit older than I’d prefer for a Milk Stout, but I’m sure it’s held up fine giving the barrel aging and insane abv for the style. Plus I’m always down to take yhe gamble on any beer from Revolution. Let’s crack this bad boy open and see what it has to offer

Pours almost completely pitch black with 3 fingers of creamy, billowing tan head that slowly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing

The nose carries a pretty similar barrel aged profile that many or their beers do, and I’m perfectly fine with that. I’m picking up on aromas of sweet bourbon, rye bread, milk chocolate, burnt caramel, molasses, fig jam, peat smoke, light vanilla, and black cherry

It’s quite similar in taste but with a surprisingly gentle touch. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting milk chocolate, peat smoke, molasses, sweet bourbon, raisin, burnt caramel, vanilla, and dry oak. The swallow brings notes of cocoa powder, sweet bourbon, molasses, applewood smoke, brown sugar, vanilla, raisin, black cherry, toasted oak, and light roast coffee

A medium full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes a touch sticky but drinks well below its abv

Revolution strikes again. They might just be the world champions of ridiculously easy drinking high abv beers

12oz can "Filled 12/02/21" poured into a snifter shows a headless, dark brown body with a ruby tinge at the edge when backlit and leaves the glass clean.

Cocoa and bourbon aromas dominate in an enticing combination that smoothly flows to the taste. A creamy, full feel that coats the tongue with wet oak, vanilla, molasses, and cocoa.

Overall I could drink this as my only beer for a very long time.

12 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 12/2/21, had 2/12/22.

Pours a dark brown, mostly opaque, with a quarter inch foamy head and light foamy lacing. Aromas of bourbon, oak, chocolate, char, raisins, malt, some vanilla, light molasses. Like flavors- bourbon, malt, oak, vanilla, raisins chocolate, char. Smooth, a solid lighter full body, well carbonated.

Have had this on tap and two cans, and it gets better every time. Excellent barrels that give up lots of wood and smoky char. Great aromas and flavors, too. Best fully warmed. Really enjoyable.

Poured the color of strong coffee, with just a little tiny bit more head. That’s BA stouts for you.
The aroma I get just a little dark fruit, which is pretty impressive considering Covid took most of my ability to smell.
The taste, woof. I think I could drink a lot of this. Bourbon certainly, but not overwhelming. The Chocolate malt is roasted just right to prevent that harsh roasted taste so common with imperial stouts. Coffee and chocolate and plums and raisins are all swimming in a pool of bourbon.
The feel is amazing really, the oats are not noticeable in the taste (for me at least) but between those and the lactose the feel is softly viscous, just ideal for the style.
I got this with the Extreme Stouts box and it was worth every penny.

Clear pour that looks deep, dark brown in the glass, opaque; nice head, khaki colored. Richly sweet aroma; chocolate with a whiskey undercurrent. Robust sweet and boozy flavors; milk chocolate; mint and anise; bourbon. Heavy body; silky smoothness; thick and chewy; big boozy heat offsetting the thick residual sugar feel.

This beer has aged well over the past 18 months or so. The flavors and mouthfeel are incredible. Per the can label, oats were used. That certainly helps explain the great smoothness of the beer. The barrel aging is quite noticeable yet plays nicely with the inherent richness of the beer. Robust and complex, nicely balanced yet mind-blowing.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear thick viscous jet black in color with light to moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark chestnut brown + dark cola brown + dark amber colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense sudsy foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of very slightly mottled thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of roasted + dark + slightly smoked malts with moderate amounts of lactose + dark fruit (cherry + fig) sweetness. There are slightly stronger than moderate aromas of bourbon + toasted oak + caramel + vanilla. Hints of earthy hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of roasted + dark + slightly smoked malts with moderate amounts of lactose + dark fruit (cherry + fig) sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of bourbon + toasted oak + caramel + vanilla. Finally there are hints of earthy hops. There are moderate amounts of lingering roasty bitterness along with lingering bourbon flavors.

M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth, slightly creamy.

O: Drinks quite easily considering the strength of the beer and the alcohol is well hidden with a slightly lighter mouthfeel than other similar barrel aged imperial milk stouts. Very well done, barrel flavors and aromas complement the beer very well. Love the touch of slightly smoked malts.

Dark Mode pours black, with a small, long-lasting, lacing tan head. The aroma is sweet, sugary milk chocolate. The flavor is a big sweet milk chocolate flavor, with bourbon notes, barrel flavors, and bit full flavors. Good feel. Overall, a big, sweet, milk stout, with lots of milk and chocolate notes.

Part of the “ Big Box of Stouts “.

L- Pitch black with a moderate thin creamy
head.

S- The bourbon predominates.

T - Again, bourbon strong up front. Taste
gives way to a familiar milk stout
flavor. Slightly sour at first but evolves
to a complex almost fruity taste.

F- Very viscous but not sickly sweet.

O- A powerhouse BBA Imperial Milk Stout
that works quite well in a 12 oz serving!
