Project Sanctuary #6: After a series of extended maturations in Woodford Rye and Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels this Extra Old Deth’s Tar is uncompromisingly spirited, unyieldingly oaky, and undeniably awesome. Four years of evaporation have concentrated its inky, fudgy malt structure into the perfect foundation for this, a most ludicrous barrel treatment.

Had this on draft 12/13/19 @ the taproom.

Midnight black appearance.

Minimal tan head; minimal lace.

Fudge, cherry, oak, bourbon & sherry notes in the nose. Wow!

Thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Same notes on the palate as the nose; complex, elegant & nearly perfect. Bravo!

Exceptional oak, rich chocolate malts and oat sweetness. Hints of grape and tannins, vanilla, rye and peppery spice. Way smoother than it has any right to be for 16.2% abv, but not as thick as expected given the extended ageing.
