Crowler filled 11/18/20; drank 11/22/20 @ the Yarchives.
Black appearance.
A rough pour yielded a nice tan head; almost no lace.
Apple brandy, oak, dark chocolate & faint bourbon notes in the nose.
Thick, creamy mouthfeel.
Apple brandy & caramel flavors up front; oak, bourbon & mild dark chocolate notes on the finish. The chocolate asserted itself as this warmed.
Big, complex & enjoyable. Fantastic.

Pours from the crowler about as thick and oily as VSOD, with fairly minimal head bubbling up, lots of legs when swirled. The apple brandy is very prominent on the nose, just about taking it over when freshly poured. I recommend letting it warm up a fair bit so that the nose opens up. Brandy all over the front palate, but with every sip I get more of the fudgy chocolate of VSOD, rich vanilla and malts with plenty of oaky barrel character on the finish. If you generally like brandy barrel-aged projects, this is going to be right up your alley.
