Brewer Andy created a one-of-a-kind brew with a vivid look, an incredible interplay of dark grain and sweet earthy beets, and a supremely worthy mission. Brewed in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, we started with a huge mash built from mostly pale ale malt, backed with flaked oats, amber malt, and a few dark specialty malts. We boiled a thick sugary black wort for 2 hours. Our chef prepared both smoked and roasted beets that we added in the whirlpool, and more beets were added after fermentation was complete. A full 100% of sales will go directly to support @wckitchen and their mission in Ukraine.

Had this on draft 7/21/22 @ the Taproom.

Black appearance.

Nice purple head; a thick curtain of lace.

Beet, oatmeal & well-preserved library book notes in the nose.

Creamy medium mouthfeel.

Beet & oatmeal flavors up front; mild well-preserved library book & a faint metallic note on the finish.

Looks beautiful, smells nice & tastes a bit off. Interesting, but not one I'll seek out again.

Jet black with a deeply saturated pinkish purple head that looks like black raspberry foam or something. Just an amazing color from the beets, and a visually appealing combo with the black stout. Super cool and unique, can't say i've ever seen a beer that looks like this (in the best possible way).

Aroma is earthy, roasty dark specialty malts, dark chocolate and dark roast coffee. Beets are very mild, maybe an underlying subtle earthiness, but it's hard to pull out.

Taste is similarly roasty, a classic imperial stout that is big, roasty, and smooth. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, slight initial sweetness. The only beet flavor I got was the last drop from the glass, oddly enough. Very mild beet presence, will appeal to beet lovers and haters alike, I reckon. Medium bodied verging on full, robust yet very smooth and drinkable.

Overall this is a very interesting experimental beer from Rev, and brewed for a great cause. Way to go, Brewer Andy!
