Into a 9 ounce snifter.

Appearance- Pours almost black with a small tight tan head. Good retention, its got some legs, but no real lace.

Smell- bourbon barrel; vanilla, caramel, a bit woody. The old ale base has some sweeter dark fruit and rye.

Taste- The sweet darker fruits of the old ale start it off, a slight hint of rye. Then the Heaven Hill barrel shines on the finish. Vanilla, bourbon, some caramel. Not too woody, more bourbon flavors then the actual wood barrel, nice. The finish is fairly quick and clean, personally I prefer some lingering bourbon, but no complaints.

Mouthfeel- fuller body, lower carbonation, good for the style

Overall- This was their first beer they aged in barrels, so far so good, there is room for improvement, but a nice beer overall. Easy drinking at 9.5%.

On-tap at Revolution into a snifter. There first Bal-Aged beer...a dark rye ale, they call it.

A - Pours dark brown/almost black, off-white head which disipitates into a small ring around the glass. Some spotty parts of a cap here and there.

S - Roasted malts, burnt sugars, coconut, booze. The barrel-aging is good, not too overpowering, which is a good thing. Sweet malts and burnt sugars are the dominant aromas for me.

T - Much like the nose, lots of roasted malts and burnt sugars. Some alcohol booze and coconut notes, some oak/barrel, and vanilla hints in there as well. Not much rye, if any.

M - Light leaning towards medium, soft light carbonation, creamy finish.

D - I was buzzing after one pour...the 9.5% hit me pretty damn good. This is Revolution's first attempt an barrel-aging and I think it went over pretty well. Recommend.

On-tap at Revolution Brewpub. Served in a snifter.

A - Arrived with a finger-plus of dark tan foam that settled to a thin cap and left behind solid lacework. The body was an opaque dark brown color.

S - Big barrel-aged aroma, with plenty of coconut, vanilla, rye, earthiness, and some zesty spices. Some alcohol flavor peeks through.

T - Taste has a bit more wood and tannic character to it. The heavy barrel influence mingles with burnt sugar, caramel, and a bit of rye. Finishes with a whiskey bite that is slightly sour.

M - Medium body, light carbonation, and a bit of warmth. Fairly smooth texture.

D - It took me a long time to finish my glass due to the booze character. Otherwise it was a pretty enjoyable beer, but not one where I'd order multiple pours in an evening. It's a pretty typical barrel-aged beer, but a fairly successful first attempt.

On tap at the brewpub into a snifter, I headed over after Sean and Kan went because they cannot out tick me !!!

An in between medium and dark brown with lots of coca cola on the sides, about a finger of light tan head ok retention and good retention...The aroma is nice, typical bourbon barrel aging done well lots of vanilla, but an added bonus of vanilla, with a light bouron finish, sweet overall but pretty nice, just not complex...The taste is decent, not at all complex and way too sweet. I hate to say this but it is a typical or generic barrel aged beer, or bw. Its nice just nothing new or special for a ba.

If you're at Rev worth trying but nothing special.
