On tap at the brewpub; served in a pint glass.

A: Pours a wood resin brown with a thin off-white head.

S: Smells of dull roasted malts and a bit of milk chocolate.

T: Thin caramel and chocolate flavours with a weak hop backbone.

D: Alcohol is hidden, but the beer lacks complexity or dynamic taste. This is a one and done, because of weak taste, not strength.

Overall: Not impressed with this one. I really appreciate the style and this one was just not up to snuff. It hits all the marks necessary for a brown, but it lacks any exceptional characteristics. Too many better offers available at Revolution to pick this one.

On-tap at Revolution. Served in a Fistival taster glass.

A - Served with a thin white foam that dissipates to a thin ring and a light wisp of haze on top. Transparent orange-brown body with a fiery glow to it.

S - Roasted barley, light chocolate, some sugary toffee, hint of nuts.

T - Taste is again mostly brown sugar, chocolate, roasted grains, some nuts, and a bit of bitter anise in the finish.

M - Smooth and creamy medium body, pleasant moderate carbonation, and a dry clean finish. Not much in the way of alcohol.

D - It's a solidly crafted brown ale with no major flaws. Not particularly exciting though - I'd stick with Red Scare over this one. Goes down pretty easy and might make a nice change of pace beer.
