In revisiting our collaborative and experimental release with Half Acre Beer Co., we allowed the sweetest, most dynamic components to age an additional year in Wild Turkey Russell’s Reserve bourbon barrels. This “deconstructed stout” was split into pale and dark components, allowing the pale beer malts to age without the antioxidant properties of the darker malts, creating a Very Special Old stout with the soul of a Very Special Old barleywine.

Pour is black with suggestions of brown edges under a short, fuzzy tan head. Though it dies quickly, the surface remains roiling for the duration of the nearly 20oz can.
Oak imparts spiced molasses & milky Werther's on the nose.
Surprisingly crisp for all this heft and age, it's also potent, damn near whiskey with some cocoa bitters, though it exhales deeper and darker than any element prior to, like vanilla caviar and charred brownies.
It could be a touch less boozy, though. At the same time, my partner gets gets Dark Lord characteristics.
Overall , I'm not finding it to be drastically evolved from the non-VSO version if I'm being honest, which is kind of a letdown.

Not as good as the original On & On Part 3, in my opinion.

Canned on 09/27/24
a: an aggressive pour gives way to a very dark brown beer with a frothy 2 finger light tan head. The latter recedes fairly quickly (with slight noise as well) to thin line around the circumference of the glass.
s: quite boozy. vanilla/oak, some sticky caramel. dark chocolate lingers in the background
t: a chocolate/caramel thread wrapped with oodles of oak, vanilla and booze.
m: medium body. Medium carbonation. some stickiness to it.
o: This is a very 'hot' BA beer. Is this beer a bit one dimensional in that regard? Perhaps. But when one enjoys BA beers on the hotter side of the spectrum and this beer's one dimension smacks you upside the head. And then again and on & on. Well, no complaints here. None.

Poured from a 19.2oz stovepipe can into a Rev Deep Wood Series tumbler. Pours a light, almost see-through brown with a fizzling khaki colored foam head but settles in the glass a shiny black. It has lighter edges as it tilts in the glass. Strong bourbon and oak on this one. Some chocolate and caramel in the background but that’s more prominent in the taste. They say this has dark and pale components and I can definitely see that in the color when it pours out of the can. Less so when it’s settled in the glass though. It also has a kind of imperial stout / barleywine blend thing going on in the taste but I get a lot more stout and I think that’s just the pale component posing as barleywine. Medium-full mouthfeel. That signature Rev zip of carbonation on the finish. Pretty good. Kind of an odd ‘VSO’ beer but it works. Not the most complex but tasty enough and at 16+% it’ll get the job done.

Canned 9/27/24; drank 10/21/24 @ the Yarchives.
Black/brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded a small, noisy tan head; no lacing remained.
Caramel, booze heat, wood & faint coconut notes in the nose.
Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Boozy caramel & wood flavors up front; faint red berry & cream notes on the finish (plus lots more booze heat).
This is good but perhaps too hot.
