A raucous affair if there ever was one, Rioter’s Reserve 2025 is a triple-barreled, triple-French-oaked rendition of November’s D.B.X.O.D. Le Tronçais. This single barrel of sweet component Deth’s Tar spent roughly one year apiece in Weller, Blanton’s, and Buffalo Trace barrels, with a triple dose of fire-toasted virgin French oak from the forest of Tronçais. Gobs of oak share center stage with the concentrated fudgy, boozy aromatics even before the beer warms, and dabble in absurdities near room temperature. Bountiful tannin and alcohol conspire to create leggy drips in profusion, decorating the walls of the glass at even the suggestion of a swirl.

I had this on draft 1/26/25 @ Revolution's Taproom.
Black appearance.
Small dark tan head; almost no lacing remained.
Swiss chocolate, caramel, wood & smooth vanilla notes in the nose.
Thick, creamy mouthfeel.
Swiss chocolate, caramel & faint red wine flavors up front; vanilla, subtle wood & faint booze heat notes on the finish.
I can't really imagine a better barrel aged stout.

1/30/25 - (Revolution Taproom) (Chicago, IL) Draft Notes: $17 plus tax 10 oz draft, 17.0% ABV draft Barrel Aged American Imperial Oatmeal Stout.
Appearance: Draft pour into a snifter glass yields black base and somewhat light tan bubbly creamy head which recedes to a fine ring around the trim and no cover over the base. 4.0
Aroma: After 20 minutes to warm, the aroma is mild in strength, yielding a strong smooth bourbon and oak backing. Digging what I’m pulling. 4.25
Taste: Stronger than the yield, with a nice blend of smooth bourbon flavors, a red sweet wine covering the base, high I’m getting rain hints of the malt. Somewhat like a BA Barleywine, at least for me. 4.25
Mouthfeel: Sticky sweet, strong but doesn’t feel nearly as strong as the high ABV. No carbonation, sweet wine and smooth bourbon finish. 4.0
Overall: This is a solid variant. Enjoying how the barrel and deep aging blend a nice smooth offering. Wish’s I got more of the oatmeal base, but overall a solid offering. 4.25
