Build-A-Barrel for The Beer Temple.
Rested for over two years in their own hand-selected Elijah Craig barrel, The Beer Temple's Build-A-Barrel Deth's Tar Oatmeal Stout was then finished in a Weller Ten Year barrel for an additional six months with a double dose of heavy fire-toasted oak from the forest of Tronçais in central France.
Waves of chocolate and caramel adorned with disturbed ashen earth and fresh brioche charge from a swirled glass. The confluence of tannin and alcohol produce legs in profusion on the snifter, and provide an elegant, tidy finish on the palate.

Had on tap at Deep Wood release of 4/17/26. Incredibly smooth, strong vanilla notes. Delicious.

I had this on draft 12/12/25 @ the Beer Temple.
Black appearance.
Minimal dark tan head; no lacing remained.
Burnt caramel, chocolate, big wood & ethanol heat notes in the nose.
Thick mouthfeel.
Burnt caramel & bourbon flavors up front; rich chocolate, sweet oak & booze heat notes on the finish.
It's boozy, yes, but it's tasty & surprisingly drinkable at 18+%. The French Oak shines.

Had on tap. I know this won't be for everyone, but I adored this beer, beer of the year territory. The divisiveness will center around the troncais oak, which I hadn't loved in other rev stouts, but here lends snappy brightness, toasty oak, and slight smoke to the already robust and complex barrel character. I found this to yield notes of marzipan, old leather, plum, vanilla, and significant tannins to the usual deth tones. Smell is this unique and complex barrel character with dark baker's chocolate, raisin, molasses, oat, vanillins, and charred earth. Feel is heavy and full with a drier finish, but in the middle the barrel character is swirling and has ups and downs in potency, a journey of a sip. Pitch black opaque body with a sustained light brown head. The wife loved it
