Appearance is pitch black with cocoa rim of head. Minimal retention, appears heavy.
Nose starts with campfire smoke and pairs with heavy charred oak and rich vanilla. Smoke reigns throughout and works well with the barrel character. Taste starts with smoke and transitions into vanilla with a slight acrid character in the middle. The body of the base beer seems a little thin for the barrel treatment. Slight tartness in the middle and smoky finish. Overall, the smell was better than the taste, but overall very good.

Good ol' Burt Reynolds. Served in a 5oz taster at the brewpub.
A - Near-black body, with a hint of brown-tinged transparency to it. Tan foam settles to a collar, wisps, and splotches of lacing.
S - The bourbon absolutely destroys the base beer, with massive amounts of spirit, and milder notes of vanilla and oak. There's a bit of coconut as well, but I don't think I'd immediately have guessed Woodford Reserve for this one. A touch of chocolate and perhaps a hint of smoke remain from the base beer.
T - The taste is also heavy on the bourbon, with mild notes of cocoa and char, the latter of which grows as the beer nears room temperature. Finish is actually evocative of drinking a glass of straight bourbon. Not overly boozy; just spirit-forward.
M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, and somewhat gritty, roasty, and tannic. There's some light alcohol warming that's appropriate for a beer in the 7-8% alcohol range.
D - The Bandit got his ass handed to him by the Woodford Reserve barrel. The 6% base beer was too small and thin for such extended barrel-aging. Not unenjoyable if you like bourbon, but this really drinks more like a shot of bourbon blended with a shot of beer.
