Cat Herder is an Illinois Golden Ale made with 100% Pilser malt, which give this brew its pale yellow hue, and hopped like an IPA with a single hop - Citra - for a big, juicy hop aroma and flavor, and a clean, lingering bitter finish. The beer is our offering as part of the Illinois Craft Brewers Build's Replicale project.

Served at the Oak Park Micro Brew Review. Pours a light clear yellow with generousfluffy head. There is great head retention and sticky lacing left behind. The nose is pungent and in your face with hops. The citra brings a different quality here than I'm used to. There are nice tropical notes leaning towards grapefruit and orange along with strong grassy and herbal notes. The malt plays with the hop profile nicely and brings some dry cracker notes towards the finish. The mouthfeel is light and appropriately carbonated. Another great and super hoppy IPA from Rev!

I was able to try the Cat Herder from a work colleague who brought a growler in for us to drink on the train ride home...Thank you Bill!!! The beer poured a golden clear with white head that did not lace. I am guessing that a fresh pint from the tap would probably lace more that a 4-5 day old growler. The scent was heavenly...citra hops are AMAZING. The taste was nice with pine resin and subtle citrus backing. The mouthfeel was light to medium in body. Overall this is a great beer. I hope they can it and make it available in the burbs!

On-tap at Revolution. Served in a mug.
A - White foam settles to a thin cap, thicker collar, and splotchy lace. Transparent pale golden body.
S - Loads of Citra hop goodness, with juicy orange flesh and a bit of dank weed and zesty herbs. Pilsner malt imparts a lightly buttered biscuit malt backdrop with a bit of breadiness as well.
T - The taste is quite good as well. Juicy orange flesh, zesty peel, a bit of herbal bitterness but fairly low and less aggressive than some of the other ReplicAles. Pils malt is biscuity and bready, but fairly dry and low in sweetness.
M - Medium body, moderate-to-low carbonation, soft, juicy texture, and a dry, clean finish.
D - Very easy to drink. Not your typical IPA with this sort of malt bill, but compelling and delicious. I easily finished my mug and will order this again next time I'm at Revolution.

On tap at the brewery, served in a mug.
Glistening bright golden orange color, high clarity, with a bubbly frothy head of white foam on the surface. Softly textured surface, a collar and halo of intricate lacing develop as the head settles to a skim.
Pungent west coast hop aroma, all Citra according to the description. Fresh citrus and dank weed.
Flavor is moderately bitter with orange and grapefruit peel, resiny and sticky, but light bodied with a dry finish due to the pilsner malt content. Fairly crisp and very drinkable. Hops are big at the beginning, and taper off slightly towards the end of the glass as you become acclimated to them.
Overall a nice IPA with 100% pilsner malt, as described by ICBG.

I had this one on tap at the revolution brewpub.
The color was a golden orange.
The smell was nice citrus grapfruit. Very pleasant.
The taste was also citrus. It was what you would like to taste
If you like to drink citra hops. I really like this kind of beer and
this one is one of my favorites now. The mouthfeel was fine.
Carbonated well. I hope they can this one!
