A prolonged repose in bourbon-soaked American oak barrels adorns a dark chocolate profile with notes of toasted coconut and vanilla. A rich, supple texture belies the unholy power of our imperial oatmeal stout.

Big 19oz can poured an opaque darkness with better than a two fingered foamy stiff collar that resists fading. Minimal stringy lacing. A somewhat muted nose; mostly barrel treatment and dark chocolate. Full bodied and creamy with an inviting effervescence that compliments consideration of the chocolate caramel vanilla characteristics of the flavors. WOW! The 14.8% is well hidden. Really appreciating the larger serving size. Via Halftime. Nice effort from Revolution Brewing. I’ll definitely be looking for another opportunity to consider this one again!!! Better than 4.5.

Black pour with little head or carbonation. The smell is a very caramel forward bourbon, and the taste is caramel and barrel char. A very good barrel aged stout!

Deth's Tar pours black, with a small, tan head. The aroma is rich and sweet, with hints of barrel and whiskey. The flavor is much the same, rich, complex, and sweet, lots of barrel, and lots of sweet bourbon. Good feel. Overall, a sweet, bourbon-rich stout.

2024 version poured from a can into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a super thick and viscous, nearly pitch-black color with a one finger head of brown foam. The head has a surprisingly strong hold, very slowly fading over time, with it receding to leave tons if lace on the sides of the glass. Upon swirling the beer in the snifter, its density and heft can be appreciated, with thick fingers of sticky brew clinging to the sides of the Bessel, and very slowly receding back to the base of the glass after the swirling has ceased.
Smell – The aroma is massive of a chocolate and roasted malt smell mixed with other sweet aromas of vanilla, caramel, molasses, and brown sugar. At the same time there is other dark fruit smells of raisin and fig, along with big notes of a char. There are other smells of oatmeal and toasted brown bread mixed within, and with a nice dose of bourbon and wood, a very rich and inviting smell is produced overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a rather huge and intense roasted malt mixed with tons of sugary sweetness, with a big presence of brown sugar, toffee, caramel, and molasses. Backing up the roast and sweet are other big flavors of oat and toasted bread, mixed with a bit of the dried fruits that were in the nose. Upfront the alcohol is surprisingly well hidden, with it only creeping in more toward the end of the taste. All the while there is a bit of wood and bourbon that develop, but not to the extent that one may anticipate from the nose. While the taste advances and sweetness, some flavors of vanilla and crème become more noticeable, and with some hints of earth that develop along the way, one is left with a very heavy and sweet taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is viscous and slick with a more subtle carbonation level.
Overall – A very sweet and heavy sipper. Not sure I can do much more then ~ 200 ml of this at any one time. Fun to try and certainly a big warming brew.

Poured from a 12-oz can just over five months past filling into a tulip glass.
Look: Dark brown, bubbles rising beautifully, with a two-inch brown head with pretty good retention, reducing eventually to a foam ring with a foam island, and leaving moderate lacing.
Nose: Bourbon and brown sugar, dark malt underneath.
Taste: The attack — very sweet — is exactly the nose in reverse order. Just enough lingering bitterness from the dark roast in the finish to balance the sweetness of the attack.
Mouthfeel: Thick, coating the tongue, just enough carbonation.
Overall: An excellent dessert beer; actually, it's enough just by itself for dessert.

Pours jet black with a small dark caramel colored head on top. Has a dark fruit and licorice smell bourbon not present. A very sweet stout tastes like how it smells.

Aroma is huge bourbon/alcohol and brown bread/like a whole loaf. The flavor is big brown bread, mild/medium sweet caramel in the middle and an acidic/expected strong bourbon/alcohol finish.

From City Brew Tours, filled October 1st 2021.
It pours a pitch black with a good than fine head of tan foam, not lacking in lacing.
Smells of Bourbon, chocolate, coconut, vanilla, roasted malt...lots going on here. Including a pretty strong nose of alcohol.
The taste is Bourbon, coconut, chocolate, toffee, roasted malt and vanilla. Alcohol is very noticeable but welcome.
Full bodied with the carbonation spot on. Plenty of heat but I guess not as much as when it was fresh?
Could be the (strong) beer of the year for me!

I just got done not drinking for a week due to antibiotics, and have decided my first beer back to normal would be a nearly 15% ABV imperial stout. Poured from stovepipe can into two pint glasses.
Pitch dark with short head, nice ring, and little wisps of lacing. On the nose, coffee, dark chocolate, grape soda??, and bourbon. Taste is forward with chocolate, vanilla, and unexpected red fruit, before it leads into a black coffee flavor. The lingering finish very hot. It's very heavy, but with a soda-like quality to its carbonation. Syrupy. Unclear why this needed to be in a stovepipe can- not a shot in hell I could finish this on my own- but the ten ounces of this I will be consuming (SLOWLY) will be a lovely time indeed.

L - pitch black with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly, leaving behind a thin cap
S - dark chocolate, sweet bourbon, caramel molasses
T - very rich dark chocolate up front and throughout intermixed well with toffee, molasses, some dried dark fruit, sweet bourbon, a solid amount of oak. Some toasted coconut in there. Definitely toasted oats throughout.
F - medium, leaning on full bodied with light carbonation. Smooth, soft
O - a really nice BBA stout that doesn't shy from the barrel
