Appearance: pours dark brown but sits black in the glass. A finger of medium brown colored head sets in and is present throughout. Active carbonation is extremely bright for the style.

Smell: Chocolate, smoke, and a potent hop backbone pop immediately on the palate. Some tart notes mesh well on the front with a slowly building barrel character. Some spice and vanilla really pull the drinker in. Sweet, silky malt character on the back end has a perfect touch of roasted notes well.

Taste: Tart acidity opens up on the front which is quickly followed by some vanilla and bright malts. Candied fruits dance on the palate, meshes well with malt and a twinge of booze. Nice oak finish really pulls the acidity and roasted notes together perfectly.

Mouthfeel: Tartness plays well off barrel and malt textures. Carbonation is bright but fits this brew perfectly.

Overall: Completely shocked at how much better the Chazberry version is against the Vanilla. I got more vanilla flavors out of this one with the perfect additions of chazberry. Some of the base beer really gets consumed by the fruit and barrel but this is still a really great brew.

Bomber for 10 bucks. Come on, great price.

A - Deep and dark brown, opaque, small bubbles, tan foam, great.

S - Smell becomes more apparent as it warms up. Slight acidity, baker's chocolate, slight bourbon twang, malt, berries.

T - Follows nose for the most part, dry chocolate, ash, bourbon notes of caramel, vanilla, alcohol, tart raspberries dominate the cherry flavor, but it is still there. Slighty sweet, tart, and very savory. Oak flavors come through fantastically.

M - A bit thin, but makes for it in smoothness. Taste stays on the palate long after drinking. A fine, velvety feel.

O - Great beer, well worth $10. I would buy a case at that price.
