Appearance: pours with a finger of light brown creamy head. Low but present active carbonation.

Smell: tons of vanilla jumps out first. Accents of chocolate, bread, light vegetal notes, and a touch of boozy burn. Get some of the Belgian aspects but would be hard pressed to pick it out without knowing before hand. Very oak, whiskey forward aroma.

Taste: not a whole lot is happening on the front. Some raisin, fig, greens, and alcohol. Whiskey and vanilla so prominent on the aroma are strangely missing. Rye bread and dark fruits shine on the backside. Belgian characteristics are stronger here but a touch underdeveloped.

Mouthfeel: carbonation is prominent but not overdone, well balanced here. Some dry raisin and alcohol burn buzz on the palate after drinking.

Overall: another barrel aged head scratcher for me from Pig Minds. Shocking how different the aroma and taste are. Overall a decent beer but just odd. Pig Minds is a nice local spot and will continue to buy their beer.

Wanted to try something from Pig Minds and spotted this bomber.
Poured into a snifter.
Drink this beer close to room temperature. Cold is not good.
A - Dark as night with no head, just a thin ring around the glass.
S - Smells like raisins and alcohol.
T - Sweet, the raisin flavor really comes through. Alcohol is very forward in this beer. The label mentions banana, clove, chocolate & plum. Perhaps those would come through with some aging but right now they were hard to find.
M - Medium mouth feel and no carbonation.
O - I wanted to love this beer because Belgian Trappist Ale + Raisins sounds so good. And it's a good beer but not great. I wish I had purchased 2 and put one in the cellar for a year because the ingredients certainly offer hope for the complex beer I was looking for.
