Dark reddish brown, tight cap of foam that sticks around for awhile.
Mellow malty aromas, slightly rich and pleasant.
Taste is malt forward and bittersweet, dry fall leaves and toasty multigrain bread.
Body is medium, not much if any residual sweetness, dry finish and easy to drink.
Overall this was an easy drinker and one I'd get a pint of next time.

Served in a shaker pint glass at the brewpub.
Fun combination: replay hockey game and Giada making some sort of pear-laden salad. Ah, television... Anyway, this stuff pours a deep ruby-garnet-brown topped by a finger of pale dusty tan foam. The nose comprises brown sugar, cinnamon, light molasses, black pepper, clove, very light maple syrup, and light cola. The taste brings in more of the same, with all of those spices slightly toned down a bit, a hint of cocoa powder added, and a touch of dark fruit tossed into the background near the finish. The body is a light medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a smooth feel. Overall, a tasty Scottish ale, one that succeeds despite (or perhaps because of) the unusual emphasis on spice.
